SEO for Contractors
SEO for Contractors and Remodelers
SEO for contractors is the work that gets a contractor or remodeling company found when homeowners nearby search Google for the job they want done, such as a kitchen remodel or a bathroom renovation, or for a general contractor in their city. Elescend Marketing offers it to contractors and remodelers in the United States and Canada.
Contractor SEO starts with four pieces of work:
A Google Business Profile set up for a service-area business, so you can appear in the map results without a storefront.
A page for each service you sell, so each job can match the searches for it.
Project pages with photos, so homeowners and Google can see your work and where you do it.
Technical fixes that let Google read your site, so your service and project pages can be found.
Remodelers face three problems that generic trade advice skips. Many work from a home office or a yard with no showroom, which changes how the Google Business Profile has to be set up (section 1). Homeowners can take weeks or months to choose a contractor for a large job, so proof and planning content carry more weight than a single landing page (sections 3 and 4). And lead marketplaces can sell the same homeowner to several companies, so the leads worth building toward are the ones that come only to you (see the lead marketplace point below). To see where your company stands,
What Our Contractor SEO Service Includes
1. Google Maps for Service-Area Businesses
Many contractors do not serve customers at their address. Google's help says a business like that should remove its address from its Google Business Profile and list the areas it serves instead. Where that applies, we set up your profile that way, and we choose the most specific primary category for your main service, such as kitchen remodeler, bathroom remodeler, or general contractor, rather than a broad one. Google's help also limits a service-area business to 20 service areas and says the area should not extend farther than about two hours' drive from where you are based, so we pick the areas you actually want work in. Verification may involve a video that shows your branded equipment, tools, or marketing materials, so we help you have those ready. We then list the services you actually sell, and keep your business name, phone number, and service areas consistent on the platforms that matter. We also set up a steady routine for asking every finished customer for a review, replying to reviews, and adding photos of real jobs to the profile.
2. A Page for Each Service You Sell
Homeowners search for the job, not only for "contractor". We build a page for each main service, such as kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, or additions, so each one can match the searches for that job. Where there is demand, we split out specific jobs too, such as a tub-to-shower conversion or an accessible bathroom.
| Search type | Example | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Job plus place | "kitchen remodel" plus your city | A page for that service, listed on your profile |
| Contractor type plus place | "general contractor near me" | A complete Google Business Profile and a strong home page |
| Planning question | "how long does a bathroom remodel take" | An article that answers it plainly and links to the service page |
3. Project Pages That Show Your Work
For a large job, homeowners want to see work you have finished. We turn your completed projects into short project pages with photos, the scope of the job, and the area it was in, written from the details you give us. A few photos and a line on the scope and area are enough to start. They give homeowners proof and give Google a reason to connect your company with the areas you serve.
4. Content for a Long Decision
A homeowner planning a kitchen remodel may read for weeks before calling anyone. We write articles around the questions they ask along the way, such as what affects the cost of a remodel, how permits work in your city, what condo board or homeowners association approval involves, and what to ask a contractor before signing.
More of those questions now get answered by AI summaries at the top of Google and in tools like ChatGPT. Pages that answer one question plainly, from a company with real projects to show, give those summaries something clear to draw on. Our AI SEO services page covers this in more detail.
5. A Site That Works on a Phone
Many homeowners will look at your site on a phone. We fix the things that slow it down or stop Google from finding your pages, such as oversized project photos, broken links, and pages Google has not indexed, so the site loads faster and your service pages can be found.
6. Local Links and Leads You Can Track
We build local links from the places a contractor already has relationships with, such as suppliers, trade associations, and community groups you sponsor. You get regular reports, in plain language, on the searches you appear for, the calls and quote requests that come from search where tracking is set up, and what we worked on.
What Most Contractors Get Wrong About SEO
Building a page for every city in the area.
Ten pages made from one template with the city name swapped can look like doorway pages, which search engines treat as spam. A page about a town also does not put a contractor into the map results there on its own. A page for an area only earns its place when it is written for homeowners there, ideally with real projects from that area.
Showing an address they do not serve customers from.
If you do not serve customers at your address, remove it from your profile and list your service areas instead (see section 1).
Relying only on lead marketplaces.
Bought leads can fill a slow month, but a shared lead may also go to several other contractors, and the leads stop when the spending stops. Search traffic to your own site and profile goes only to you. Track every lead by where it came from, work out the cost per signed job for each source, and you will see which source is worth keeping.
Hiding the proof.
A gallery of photos with no captions tells Google little. A project page that names the job, the scope, and the area tells homeowners and Google what you do and where you do it.
Leaving out licences and insurance.
Where your state or province licenses contractors, show your licence number on your website and profile, along with your insurance and warranty details. Many homeowners check before they call.
What We Check First in a Contractor Audit
We start with these checks, because each one can hold a contractor back:
Profile setup. Is the profile set up as a service-area business if you do not serve customers at your address, is it verified, and is the primary category the most specific one for your main service?
Service areas. Do the listed service areas match where you actually want work, within Google's limits, or is the list padded with every town in the region?
Service coverage. Does each service you want more of have its own page, or is everything on one services page?
Proof. Are your finished projects on your site with photos and a description, or only on social media?
Duplicate pages. Do several city or service pages say almost the same thing and compete with each other?
Speed on a phone. Do your photo galleries make key pages slow on mobile?
Trust details. Are your licence, insurance, and warranty details easy to find?
If you have us run the work, we then fix the profile and anything that blocks indexing, build the service pages you most want to fill, and add project pages, content, and local links.
Who This Service Is For
Kitchen and bath remodelers. The work centres on a page for each room type and project pages that show finished kitchens and bathrooms.
General contractors and home remodelers. Each main service gets its own page, and project pages show the range of work.
Specialty trades. Roofers and plumbers have their own pages: SEO for roofers and SEO for plumbers.

FAQs
-
There is no fixed timeline, so be cautious of anyone who promises one. Profile fixes are usually the first changes to take effect, while new service pages, project pages, and links build up over time. Your market and your competition change the pace.
-
Yes. Google lets businesses that serve customers at the customer's location set up a service-area profile with no address shown. Keep your service areas realistic, within about two hours' drive of where you are based.
-
They do different jobs. Bought leads can fill a slow month quickly, but they cost money every time and may be shared with other contractors. SEO takes longer to build, and the calls it brings come only to you. Many contractors use both while their search presence grows.
-
It depends on how many services and areas you want to cover and how competitive your market is. Request a free audit to talk through what we would do first.
-
It helps, but project pages and service pages usually matter more for a contractor. A focused set of articles that answer homeowners' planning questions supports those pages.
-
Only for areas where you can write a page that is genuinely about that area, ideally with real projects there. Template pages with the city name swapped can be treated as spam.
